Healthcare Is a Human Right – Maryland (HCHR-MD) launched in 2012 to win a universal healthcare system in Maryland by building a people’s movement grounded in human rights that unites communities across the state. The campaign was formed jointly by the Maryland chapters of Healthcare NOW! and Physicians for a National Health Program, which have organized for a national universal healthcare system for years, and United Workers, a member organization based in Baltimore that focuses much of its work on organizing for human-rights-based development in the city.
The campaign currently has organizing committees in eight counties. In December 2014 it released a report, Voices of Maryland’s Healthcare Crisis and the Rising Human Rights Movement.
